Design
The Hornet OSMO 1P is NEMO’s minimalist solo tent and the successor to the Hornet Ultralight 1P. Its frame
is one aluminum DAC Featherlite pole joined at a hub, which keeps setup quick but leaves part of the tent
reliant on stakes, so it is classed as semi-freestanding. NEMO adds a Flybar clip to help the pole shape
the canopy, an overhead Nightlight pocket, one-handed door tiebacks and a rectangular Divvy Cube stuff sack.
The fly and floor use NEMO’s OSMO fabric, a recycled nylon-polyester ripstop made without PFAS. Backcountry
lists the fly at 1200 mm and the floor at 1500 mm. The inner tent is 15D nylon with no-see-um mesh.
Size and weight in context
REI lists a minimum trail weight of 1 lb 13 oz and a packaged weight of 2 lb 4 oz. NEMO’s own page calls
the 1P “26 ounces” without naming the measure, so the figure you see may depend on how it is counted. The
floor is 87 inches long, 39 inches wide at the head and 30 at the foot, for 20.6 sq ft, with one 7.3 sq ft
vestibule and 39 inches of peak height. It packs to about 7.5 x 12.5 inches.
Next to the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1, the Hornet OSMO 1P lists a
lower trail weight and a slightly wider head end, while the Copper Spur is fully freestanding and lists a
larger vestibule. Compare them directly on the tent comparison page.
Who it suits
This tent is aimed at solo three-season hikers who put weight first and are comfortable staking out a
shelter every night. The single door and modest vestibule leave limited covered storage, so it suits
light packers more than those carrying bulky gear. If you plan trips beyond mild-weather seasons, read
3-season vs 4-season tents first.
