The Dragonfly OSMO is NEMO’s lightweight freestanding backpacking tent, sold in one-, two- and three-person sizes. This overview covers the two-person version.
Design
A single hubbed, pre-bent pole set gives the tent a freestanding structure, so it stands up before staking, which helps on rocky or sandy ground. There are two side doors and two vestibules, so each person can get in and out without climbing over the other. NEMO describes the vestibules as asymmetrical, sized differently for gear and entry, and the inner has overhead “Nightlight” pockets and a gear loft for storage.
The fly and floor use NEMO’s OSMO ripstop fabric, rated at 1,500 mm and 2,000 mm respectively. The inner canopy is mostly no-see-um mesh, which favors ventilation over warmth: a good trade in summer, less so on cold, windy nights.
Size and weight in context
At a listed 1.2 kg minimum weight and 1.41 kg packaged weight, it’s in the lighter half of freestanding two-door tents. The 2.7 m² floor is the same as several popular rivals, but the floor narrows toward the foot (127 cm at the head, 114 cm at the foot), which matters if you use wide pads.
NEMO includes a stuff sack designed to be split between two people, so partners can share the carry.
Who it suits
It suits backpackers who want the convenience of two doors and a freestanding pitch without stepping up to a heavier tent. If you camp mainly in exposed, windy places or into early winter, look at the season-rating guide first.
