The Vasque Talus AT UltraDry was a mid-height waterproof hiking boot. It combined a mostly leather upper, Vasque’s UltraDry waterproofing and a Vibram Mega Nuasi outsole, and weighed about 2 lb 3 oz [1][2]. It no longer appears in Vasque’s lineup. The old Vasque product page now redirects to a general Vasque collection on Irish Setter’s site, and that page lists no Talus models [3]. If you want a current Vasque, look at the Breeze or the St. Elias.
Status: discontinued in practice
Vasque’s web address now forwards to a Vasque hiking collection hosted by Irish Setter. That collection lists nine products: the St. Elias, Breeze, Juxt and Horizon. None of them is a Talus [3]. Backcountry’s men’s Talus AT UltraDry page shows “Out of Stock” with no price [1]. Vasque hasn’t announced a direct successor, so the closest current options are the boots in its present range, listed below.
The Talus name covered a small family. Alongside the AT there was the Talus Trek UltraDry, which a retailer describes as a lighter boot with “more ground feel than the burlier Talus.” It used a 1.8 mm nubuck-and-mesh upper and a Vibram Nuasi sole [4]. There was also a low-cut Talus AT shoe. Neither appears on Vasque’s current collection page [3].

What it was built for
Backcountry described the UltraDry system as one that “seals out puddles and rain” while letting sweat vapor escape. It said the Vibram Mega Nuasi outsole was built for traction on muddy and dusty trails [1]. Another retailer called the boot “understated, approachable, and as durable as the day is long.” That listing said the leather-dominant upper used mesh panels to help with breathability [2]. The molded EVA midsole with a TPU shank was meant to add underfoot support on rough ground [1][2].
Overall, it was a general-purpose waterproof hiker with a Vibram sole. It wasn’t built for alpine climbing, and it wasn’t a lightweight trail shoe.
Who it suited, and who should skip it
It suited:
– Day hikers and weekend backpackers who wanted a waterproof mid boot with a branded Vibram sole [1].
– Hikers who wanted more leather than a mesh trail shoe offers [2].
Skip it (or a leftover pair) if:
– You need the right size and width. With the boot gone from Vasque’s lineup [3], what remains is old stock, and sizes may be scattered.
– You want a lighter, more flexible shoe. Even Vasque positioned the Talus Trek as the lighter option in the family [4].
– You need specific warranty or support terms. Check what the seller offers on any leftover stock before you buy.
Current alternatives
| Boot | Price | Upper | Waterproofing | Outsole |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vasque Breeze (men’s) | $180 [5] | Recycled polyester mesh with 1.8–2.0 mm waterproof nubuck [5] | VasqueDry [5] | Vasque Trail Strider [5] |
| Vasque St. Elias (men’s) | $250 [6] | Full-grain oiled and waxed leather, 1.8–2.0 mm [6] | GORE-TEX with Extended Comfort [6] | Vibram Megagrip [6] |
| Salomon Quest 5 GORE-TEX (men’s) | $240 [7] | Nubuck leather and ripstop fabric [7] | GORE-TEX [7] | All-Terrain Contagrip [7] |
- Vasque Breeze. This is the closest match among current Vasque boots: a leather-and-mesh waterproof hiker with an Enduralast Bio EVA midsole and a dual-density EVA footbed. Vasque says it “will hike wherever you want to go” [5].
- Vasque St. Elias. Choose it if you want a stiffer, all-leather boot with a GORE-TEX membrane and a Vibram outsole. Vasque says it is “built for the long haul” [6].
- Salomon Quest 5 GORE-TEX. Choose it for heavier backpacking loads. Salomon lists a 12 mm drop, a 4D chassis for stability and multi-day hiking as its main use [7].
Bottom line
The Talus AT UltraDry was a waterproof leather-and-mesh mid boot on a Vibram Mega Nuasi sole [1][2], and it is no longer in Vasque’s current range [3]. If you see a pair in your size at a fair price, the specs above tell you what you’re getting. Otherwise, the Vasque Breeze is the nearest current option, and the St. Elias is the burlier choice.
