These boots have accompanied me on almost every backpacking/hiking adventure for the past 3.5 years. They were originally bought at REI for a multi-day hike of the AT when I first started to get into hiking and backpacking.
These boots feature a quality leather upper that conforms to your foot the more you hike in them, which allow for a much more comfortable fit than synthetic upper boots.
They also feature Vasque’s ULTRADRY waterproofing technology which lets these boots perform just as well as any other GoreTex boot on the market. (I have stood in a stream with water up to the top of the boot and have not had any water seep into the boot).
The boots also feature an extremely durable Vibram sole, which after 3.5 years of hard hiking and backpacking, still seems to have lots of life left in them. The boot also breathes very well and is perfectly suited for fall and spring trips.
These boots have also been worn extensively in the summer and winter, however, I would recommend wearing a very thin wool sock for the summer months, and a thick wool sock for the winter months.
This boot is recommended for anyone who wants a boot that can do it all and won’t break the bank. The main concern for most hikers and backpackers is finding a boot that is breathable, comfortable over many miles, is light and is waterproof, and the Vasque Talus AT ULTRADRY checks all of those boxes!
